Eucalyptus oil, eucalyptus leaf oil, eucalyptol

Eucalyptus oil is a volatile oil obtained by steam distillation from the plants of Eucalyptus globulus of the Myrtaceae family, Cinnamomum camphora of the Lauraceae family, or other plants of the same genera from the above two families. This product is a clear, colorless or pale yellow liquid; it has a characteristic aromatic odor, somewhat similar to camphor, with a pungent and cool taste; upon prolonged storage, the color may become slightly darker. It is readily soluble in 70% ethanol. The relative density should be 0.895–0.920 (Appendix VII A). The refractive index should be 1.458–1.468 (Appendix VII F).
